Trip to Braziers international artists’ workshop open day

Since 1995 the Braziers International Artists’ Workshop has taken place each August at Braziers Park, which is Britain’s longest-running community, a residential college and an architectural treasure hidden deep in the south Oxfordshire countryside. The workshop is an artist-led initiative that brings together up to 30 professional artists of all nationalities for 16 days to work, dialogue and experiment through working processes different from the habitual. This is a great opportunity to visit the venue and view the results of the workshop. Please contact aspex.

Artist Advisor Susan Diab is off to the Folkestone Triennial to explore one of the year’s most exciting arts events. Walk, talk, debate and discuss with a group of your peers. A contribution towards your travel costs will be made. Please contact De La Warr.

You Don’t Need a Gallery: Sam Basu

Sam Basu will share his experiences of artist-led projects that offer an alternative way to make and show new work. Most notably, he runs a summer university with an invited set of international artists with mixed practices, who convene in a disused factory in Treignac in Correze, France. Wednesday 17 September, 6-8pm, Modern Art Oxford
Artist Educators: working in Schools and Galleries
This artists’ networking event focuses on the valuable contribution artist educators make to school and gallery education projects. It provides a forum for discussing the impact artists’ careers and the implications for their professional development. Miranda Creswell and Sarah Worthington, artists with a range of education experience, will give short presentations about recent projects to highlight some of the benefits and issues that arise out of their work as artist educators. Route
Celebrating the launch of the Cultural Olympiad, a four year programme of cultural activities leading up to the London 2012 Olympic Games, the first in a series of Route events has been developed by Portsmouth-based artists and designers to highlight creativity and culture in the City. A special bus will be regularly touring Portsmouth and Southsea throughout the day taking in some of the specially organised events and activities as well as some art in unusual places. Origin: The London Craft Fair as Somerset House
Origin is the leading selling fair for craftspeople in the UK. If you are applying for the show in the future, this trip will provide essential understanding of the level of work and presentation required in order to be selected. A Crafts Council Origin team member will give a brief introduction to the show. Booking is essential and there is a £17 charge, which covers transport by mini bus from Portsmouth to Somerset House and show entry. You must enter as a group on the set day and time. Twins: Mike Bartlett and Cathy Lomax

To coincide with their collaborative exhibition at GASP, Art Space Portsmouth, Mike and Cathy will discuss how they came to be working together as well as the ideas and processes behind their work. Tuesday 21 October, 6 - 8pm, Turner Contemporary Project Space
Pecha Kucha Night

An evening of food and networking for artists based on the show and tell Pecha Kucha model of presenting ideas in a fast-paced, snappy format. Artists are invited to participate by showing 20 slides, each for 20 seconds, that’s 6 minutes, 40 seconds per presentation. Food will be provided by the local Rice Bowl restaurant and the evening will be facilitated by an ARC artist advisor. Places are limited. Please contact Turner Contemporary.
