about aspex art education events diary artists support aspex
aspex and the artists with whom we work, seek to push at boundaries to produce new, exciting and innovative art. Our artistic programme is shown through exhibitions in our two gallery spaces, off-site and special events. It aims to reflect the diversity of media, perspectives and ideas expressed by contemporary artists today.
Since it was established in 1981, has built its reputation on supporting emerging artists at an early stage in their careers, showcasing new work being made at a regional, national and international level. However, this focus has not precluded the presentation of the work of more established artists who have reached a milestone in the development of their practice, or whose work has a particular relevance for local audiences.

The main gallery 1, shows five exhibitions a year, complemented by a fast changing programme in gallery 2, our project space adjacent to the café. In addition to these two galleries, we regularly show work or organise events in other locations around Portsmouth.

You can expect to see a variety of approaches reflected in our diverse and ever changing progamme of exhibitions, events, gallery talks and other activities. We aim to expose our visitors to varied voices and cultures, giving opportunities to experience experimental and often challenging contemporary art.
