Artist Dominique Ghesquière will be exhibiting her artwork across three venues in the city as the result of a 3-month residency in Portsmouth. Her exhibition ‘Entre chien et loup’ (between dog and wolf) will be available for public viewing at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, and Art Space Portsmouth (GASP) from Saturday 19th November.
Dominique Ghesquière is the recipient of the Art Space Portsmouth International Residency 2011. This exhibition is the result of her three-month stay in Portsmouth based at the art studios in Brougham Road. A new piece of sculpture will be revealed floating in the Mast Pond at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, subtle gallery interventions will be on show both inside and outside of the gallery at and a series of photographic works shown at Art Space Portsmouth (GASP).
Dominique spent the first few weeks of her residency discovering the city by walking several hours each day. With her camera in hand she set about recording her journeys, building a series of visual ‘notes’ of her unique observations of Portsmouth.
The title of the exhibition, ‘Entre chien et loup’ translates to ‘between dog and wolf’. In French this phrase represents the moment halfway between day and night. Dominique took particular inspiration from the city’s natural harbour, with both its Naval connections and its many commercial and leisure activities; working alongside volunteer boat-builders in the Dockyard to produce a new artwork to be revealed at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. This, amongst other exhibits, will offer the opportunity to view further work produced during this prestigious award.
The preview event on Saturday 19th November will provide a tour around the three venues starting at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, followed by and finishing at Art Space Portsmouth (GASP). The exhibition at Art Space Portsmouth continues to the 23rd November and the exhibition at both Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and
continues to 11th December 2011.
