aspex's biennial open submission exhibition
14 November 2009 - 17 January 2010Preview: Friday 13 November, 6-8pm
arc symposium: SELECTION
Friday 13 November, 2-5pmThis summer aspex invited emerging artists working in all media to submit work for this show. Over five hundred artists from across the world answered the call.
A distinguished panel of selectors: David Blandy, artist; Deborah Smith, freelance curator; Michael Stanley, Director, Modern Art Oxford; and Joanne Bushnell, Director, aspex met at the beginning of September to view over 2,500 submitted works.
Ten artists from the UK, Europe and Asia have been chosen for inclusion in the group show this winter. From these short-listed artists a winner will be chosen to receive the prize of a solo exhibition at aspex in 2011, to be announced at the exhibition preview on Friday 13 November.
Previous winners have been Cathy Ward & Eric Wright in 2008, Tim Machin in 2006, and Susan Collis in 2004.
Artists who applied for EMERGENCY4 but who have been unsuccessful are offered a free place at the symposium where all panel members will discuss the process and their selection criteria. This offer is subject to availability, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
EMERGENCY is organised in partnership with arc (artists' resource centre).
