INTRO - archiveSituated next to the cafe, the intro space showcases the work of emerging artists and designer/makers, and the results of off-site or education projects. With regularly changing exhibitions and special events, intro gives you something new to see or do each time you visit us. Acquire an introduction to collecting EVENT: First Bite Thursday 3 July, 6pm Ever wanted to buy a piece of art, but don’t know where to begin? Acquire is an exhibition which aims to introduce twelve up and coming South coast based artists and designer/makers, to local and national collectors of contemporary art and craft. Participating artists include Laura Bennett, Katayoun Dowlatshahi, Jeannie Driver, Peter Lloyd, Sarah Macrae, James Mclellan, Greg Palmer, Sue Paraskeva, Ann Richards, Fran Richardson, Andrea Stokes and Sadie Tierney. Acquire provides a varied collection of painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, sculpture, jewellery, ceramics, and textiles. Offering an overview of the high quality artistic output in the Hampshire area. Acquire aims to give people an opportunity to speculate and invest in local emerging talent. Alongside the exhibition an event entitled First Bite has been organised to provide an introduction to collecting contemporary visual art for those who are interested in buying art, exploring the art world and who are interested to learn more. The speakers, including Louisa Buck, co-author of Owning Art, The Contemporary Art Collectors Handbook, Paul Hobson, Director of the Contemporary Art Society which supports the development of connections between artists and collectors, and artist Peter Lloyd, will offer an invaluable insight into the importance and rewarding benefits of engaging with this growing market. “The choices made by the collector have affected not only the monetary value of art, but also its cultural status. If you are wondering where to start, this is the event for you. Each of the speakers will talk about collecting from their own experience and perspectives, followed by a chaired panel discussion.
