Play>
An exhibition of recent graduates from the south

John Didymus, Emily Draper, Stephanie Hands, Kirsten Hovde, James Lewis, Craig McPhedran, Kate O’Connell, Vicky Wareham

18 March - 26 April 2009

Play> survey’s current trends in contemporary visual art practice through the work of recent graduates from colleges in the south.  Produced using a diversity of media, the artists employ humour to explore current issues. Rather than glib comments on our society, these works invite us to consider media, consumerism and politics in a way that is both playful and intelligent.

The exhibition presents a wide range of high quality sculpture, drawing, installation, photography, video and ceramics in aspex's intro space. Play> provides the artists with an opportunity to show work less than a year out of art school and explores and challenges and issues than can occur once removed from this environment and exposed to the demands of a working contemporary gallery.

Curated by Roy Brown.
