Take That a selling exhibition of collectables and contemporary craft
Deborah Bowness, Jonny Hannah & Tara Holmes
22 July – 13 September 2009Take That the aspex summer selling show, offers a rare opportunity to view and buy high quality collectable pieces by three contemporary British designer makers. As aspex continues to support emerging and established designer/makers, its reputation in the South as a platform for contemporary craft and print work grows.
The artists included in Take That all use 'ready-mades' as inspiration for their contemporary design pieces and the three featured bodies of work compliment one another as they are woven through the fluid space of aspex’s intro gallery and café.
The Deborah Bowness design collection is a series of ‘ready-made’ digital and hand printed wallpapers. Bowness was a pioneer in this approach and has developed her own trompe l’oeil style that has a playful sophistication combining wallpaper panels with photographs of everyday items like clothing, shoes and mirrors. A freelance illustrator based in Southampton, Jonny Hannah’s many clients include The Sunday Telegraph, The New York Times & The St. Kilda Courier. Tara Holmes is a maker with an eye for creating beautiful and unique pieces from carefully sourced objects. These elements, originating in junk shops, car boots and antique markets, are juxtaposed wittily to create unique intensely crafted pieces.
