The SEN/D conference was a joint event held at Portsmouth Guildhall on 10th March 2016, the Evolve Consortium (consisting of New Theatre Royal, Aspex Gallery and Portsmouth Cultural Trust) and SOCO Music took a broad and inclusive approach to the challenges of integrating the arts into SEN/D settings.
The day was well attended by a range of arts and cultural organisations, arts practitioners and schools. Also in attendance were Janet Maxwell (Director of Public Health for Portsmouth City Council) and Raj Patel (Relationship Manager SW for Children and Young People and Learning, Arts Council England), Lorraine Cheshire (School Liaison Manager, Artswork) and Peter Taylor (Strategic Manager, Artswork).
The morning session consisted of a series of presentations – starting with Jon Adams, a Neuro-Divergent Artist, who shared images of his own work and his experience of education.
