Sian Hutchings has been nominated by Aspex for the Platform 2016 regional award!
Platform is a region-wide project, annually supporting emerging artistic talent. We select artwork by two students studying Fine Art and Photography from The University of Portsmouth, The University of Creative Arts Farnham (UCA), The University of Chichester, Arts University Bournemouth (AUB), Southampton Solent and Winchester School of Art (University of Southampton).
Hutchings was selected out of the twelve artists currently exhibiting at the gallery, which runs through to the 13 November.
Partner galleries have also nominated four other artists from across the region. The successful artist will win a year-long professional development programme with artist and Aspex’s artist advisor Jonathan Parsons, as well as a £2500 bursary.
Hutchings graduated from Arts University Bournemouth (AUB), and describes her piece, 'The Composition of Sway' as "replicating the soundscape of Sway, The New Forest, through unconventional methods of playing."
Our Director, Joanne Bushnell said: "Sian's performance, 'The Composition of Sway', was stunning and it was a real privilege to see it live at the Preview.
She is an extremely talented artist with a promising future and the team at Aspex are thrilled to be able to put her forward for the regional Platform award".
Platform is organised by the Contemporary Visual Arts Network South East (CVAN), a partnership between five galleries; Aspex, De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, MK Gallery in Milton Keynes, Turner Contemporary in Margate, and Modern Art Oxford.
