The Aspex ‘Futurators’ Announce the Commissioning of Ania Bas

We are thrilled to announce the commissioning of visual artist Ania Bas, by the young curator group, the ‘Futurators’.

Ania creates situations that support dialogue, exchange, and explore frameworks of participation through the production of texts, performances and publications.
Her artworks have been commissioned by the Radar, Loughborough (2015) and ‘Art On The Underground’, London (2016).

The Futurators are a group of individuals aged 14–21 who meet at the gallery weekly to curate, discuss and experience art. The sessions have been running since June 2015, led by artistic practitioners Abigail Gilchrist and Letty Clarke, and are supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Over the last 6 months the group have been collaborating with Portsmouth City Council’s Library & Archive Service, and Senior Archivist Michael Gunton, to review the history of the local area.

Current Futurator Salma Al-Garoe said “It is an honour to attend these sessions and grasp the opportunity to explore and develop artistic skills with inspiration from the history of Portsmouth”.

Ania and the Futurators will work together to provide a Mail Art project to be disseminated and exhibited across the city later this year.
