In 2018 Aspex launched a project which aimed to support the integration of refugees and asylum seekers into the wider community of Portsmouth through the of a provision of a six-week programme (2018).
This project, led by artist/poet Majid Dhana and designer Mona King, developed skills and raised aspirations, supporting participants to work towards new goals, and culimnated in the production of Safe Space Guide to: Portsmouth.
About the Guide
The aim of this publication is to help develop and promote safe spaces in the city, opening up locations that are well used and loved by local people.
The idea for the Guide has come directly from consultation with the refugee and asylum seeker community and what they feel would support their integration. Its design, as well as the locations featured within it, were selected by the workshop participants.
